Day 8
June 24, 2008
Mi = 35
Kettle Falls, WA to 15 miles by Ione, WA.
Short day today for several reasons:
1. Matt and Laureen are trying to let their bodies recover from all of the Cascade Mountain passes. Jon is fine of course…he is a teenage athlete.
2. Today was Jonathan’s 17th birthday. He’s mentioned several times that if he were home he would be getting his license. We’re very excited for him. We went out to breakfast to celebrate–a delicious rest from oatmeal. We also made turned a $2.50 package of pecan twirls into a birthday cake by adding matches. Happy Birthday, Jon!
Good news–We made it to another state!!! We’re in Idaho!
A lot of hills again–uphill most of the day (so much for taking it easy), but no major peaks (phew!). We stayed at a campsite of his choice, right on a lake where we could watch the baby ducks piddle-paddle behind their mamas. Since we finished early, we enjoyed a card game, roasted hot dogs on the open fire, made some mac-n-cheese and bought some refreshing beverages. Ahhh—hope our muscles are ready to pick it back up tomorrow. On come the Rockies!!!!
