Day 10
Mi = 68.5
Priest River, ID to Heron, Montana
Weather–cool in the am, warm/hot in the day
We still can’t get over how the morning begins at 35-40 degrees and by 11am it’s in the 80s or 90s.
Priest River, ID to Heron, MT We entered another state! We crossed into a new time zone and lost an hour. Expecting an overwhelming flashing sign with possible fireworks spitting out to tell us to turn our clocks ahead an hour, we were very disappointed to almost miss the mini green sign reading “Entering Mountain Time Zone”.
The chain on Matt’s bike got locked into his highest gear; for about an hour, he was stuck pedaling uphill barely being able to make one rotation a minute. Jonathan reminds us, “Once again, his bike goes without problems.”
Laureen’s accident total = 4 Let’s recap: 1) bumped a pole in the city (Seattle) 2) woman on a casual bike ride ran into her 3) Fell trying to cross the street in a hurry and now TODAY we have number 4) Trying to avoid a grate in the street, swerved into the curb and toppled over, skidding onto the pavement. Knees are scraped like an 8yr old boy playing football. Haha…real cute.
We cycled along the Pend Oreille River and Lake, which millions of years ago used to be covered in glaciers. The glaciers were piled thousands of feet above sea-level and only the very tips of the mountains poked through like boulders on the ground. Incredible to imagine resting on a rock that some day became a 7,000 ft mountain!
No shower available at this campsite. Matt and Jon waded in the ICE COLD river to rinse their pits. Nice.
