This Years Cause

The Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Nyeri, Kenya are known for running several educational orphanages in Kenya to offer relief for those suffering from the overwhelming poverty. Because of the profound poverty, many girls around the age of 11 are sold into marriages that can often be abusive. HIV and AIDS also take the lives of over 500 people each day in Africa, leaving hundreds of children orphaned. The sisters walk the lands of Kenya inviting and willing parents to allow their hungry children, as well as any lonely orphans they can find. To live them on their campus-like orphanages. With the promise of full bellies and an education to provide them with an opportunity at a better life, many parents agree. The sisters raise these children in their orphanages.

However, as seen above, many of the buildings are still waiting to be built.

The proceeds raised with this years cross country trip will be donated to the Sisters to complete a building on the orphanage campus to allow them to more adequately serve the children in need.
